{"id":19701,"date":"2015-09-28T12:52:44","date_gmt":"2015-09-28T11:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/?p=19701"},"modified":"2021-03-22T10:00:38","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T10:00:38","slug":"retirement-villages-with-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/retirement-villages-with-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Building bigger, better retirement villages with care"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>JANE SLADE talks to Nigel Welby, CEO of Retirement Villages, about his plans to extend and expand the group\u2019s villages<\/h3>\n<p>Building\u00a0large retirement villages, particularly in rural areas, makes sense for active retirees looking for an environment that offers a wide choice of things to do, lots of people to meet and space to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Welby, CEO of the specialist\u00a0retirement property group Retirement Villages,\u00a0believes there are many advantages in buying or renting apartments and cottages in a Retirement Villages development, not least because of the care facilities they offer including extra care apartments for those who need more support and on-site care\/nursing homes for those\u00a0needing more\u00a0help.\u00a0This means that if people get ill or are unable to care for themselves they don\u2019t have to move again and couples don&#8217;t have to be separated.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3260\" style=\"width: 440px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Charters-Village_640x320.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3260\" class=\"wp-image-3260\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Charters-Village_640x320.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"215\" data-id=\"3260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Charters-Village_640x320.jpg 640w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Charters-Village_640x320-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3260\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charters Village in East Grinstead<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retirementvillages.co.uk\/our-villages\/home-counties\/charters-east-grinstead-west-sussex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charters Village<\/a> in East Grinstead, East Sussex\u00a0is the newest addition to the Retirement Villages&#8217;s portfolio, which now extends to 14 villages across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Eight villages provide on-site care homes and the others offer domiciliary care with full-time care staff on site. <a href=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-care.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-19709\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-care.jpg\" alt=\"retirement care\" width=\"460\" height=\"173\" data-id=\"19709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-care.jpg 928w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-care-300x113.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-care-600x226.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Charters Village&#8217;s opening last year marked the completion of\u00a033 apartments, six chalet bungalows and a 60-bed nursing, residential, dementia and day-care centre.<\/p>\n<p>Designed for the over 65s a second phase of 46 one-and-two-bedroom apartments is now\u00a0under construction on the 16-acre site\u00a0as well as three one-bedroom bungalows.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Welby acknowledges that Retirement Villages has to cater to very wide age group\u00a0which has\u00a0varying expectations and needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChronological age is irrelevant,\u201d he says. \u201cSome people as young as 55 can be thinking of moving into a retirement village while others can be in their 80s and 90s \u2013 in fact the chairman of one of our residents\u2019 associations is well into his nineties and is sharp as a button. It&#8217;s all a state of mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One thing that has changed over the years is demand for extra domiciliary care. \u201cThis is what differentiates us from other operators,&#8221; adds Mr Welby. &#8220;We\u00a0provide domiciliary care in a\u00a0more upmarket fashion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe offer villages with care rather than care homes,&#8221; Mr Welby emphasises. \u201cWe provide domiciliary care which is not on an ad hoc basis where someone calls in for 20 minutes twice a day. We employ permanent salaried staff who are on site so you see the same person every day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We sell a variety of care packages including cleaning, shopping, washing so people can be in control of what they spend and what they need. A new club house featuring a bar, restaurant, library, shop and surgery is now being built as well as 39 extra-care apartments for those who need more support.<\/p>\n<p>[pullquote1 quotes=&#8221;true&#8221; align=&#8221;right&#8221; variation=&#8221;<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><span style=\"color: #cc99ff;\">blue<\/span><\/span>&#8220;]We\u00a0provide domiciliary care in a\u00a0more upmarket fashion[\/pullquote1]<\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.retirementvillages.co.uk\/our-villages\/eastern-counties\/moat-park-bishops-stortford-braintree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moat Park<\/a>\u00a0in Essex 26 apartments designed for independent living have been completed priced from \u00a3225,000 for a one bed and \u00a3350,000 for a two bed. Permission is now being sought for more cottages and an additional 12 rooms to be added to the on-site care home, increasing it to 72 beds.<\/p>\n<p>In the mean time an expansion programme is underway\u00a0at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.retirementvillages.co.uk\/our-villages\/south-west\/roseland-parc-tregony-truro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roseland Parc<\/a> near Truro where there are plans for eight further apartments and at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.retirementvillages.co.uk\/our-villages\/eastern-counties\/lime-tree-village-rugby-warwickshire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lime Tree Village <\/a>in Warwickshire 44 two-and-three-bedroom apartments priced from \u00a3373,950\u00a0have just been launched.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-villages.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19710\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-villages.jpg\" alt=\"retirement-villages\" width=\"654\" height=\"246\" data-id=\"19710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-villages.jpg 928w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-villages-300x113.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/retirement-villages-600x226.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 654px) 100vw, 654px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is more economic for us to find opportunities for expanding our existing villages and adding facilities,\u201d says Welby. \u201cIt\u2019s simpler for us to make an existing village bigger. It\u2019s also better for residents as bigger communities\u00a0encourage more dynamic social interaction.
