These exercises can be done where some or all of the body weight is supported (such as swimming and cycling) or just simple walking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yoga and pilates are also good forms of non-impact exercise and help to keep the joints strong and flexible.<\/p>\n<h4>Physiotherapy<\/h4>\n<p>Physiotherapy or physio can help with a wide range of injuries and conditions including back and neck pain, repetitive strain injuries, joint pain and arthritis, muscle<br \/>\ninjuries, post-surgery rehabilitation, and sports injuries.<\/p>\n<p>It can also be used for rehabilitation either after surgery or to recover from an injury or strain. [pullquote1 quotes=&#8221;true&#8221; align=&#8221;right&#8221; variation=&#8221;purple&#8221;]Gentle exercise is good for general joint health and can help to alleviate pain[\/pullquote1]<\/p>\n<p>Physiotherapists, who are experts in the musculoskeletal system and how it works,\u00a0will typically use a combination of manual therapy and exercise to treat injuries.\u00a0However there\u00a0are other treatments such as acupuncture, hydrotherapy, therapeutic ultrasound and pilates.<\/p>\n<p>Purpose-built physio-gyms let physiotherapists work with you to\u00a0give you\u00a0expert advice and\u00a0create an exercise programme especially for your needs.<\/p>\n<p>Other treatments\u00a0available include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Traction<\/strong> which can be helpful in relieving pain in the neck or lower back as well as\u00a0straightening and aligning broken bones that are too difficult to\u00a0fix with a plaster cast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electrotherapy<\/strong> which is the use of electrical energy to manage pain, rehabilitate muscles and increase the range of motion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physiotherapy Ultrasound<\/strong> which is used for soft tissue injuries and more chronic conditions,\u00a0to help heel and relieve pain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joint injections<\/strong> which can accelerate the healing process\u00a0and replace some of the lost cartilage with synthetic cartilage (hyaluronic acid). These injections\u00a0rarely promote\u00a0long-term improvement but can have excellent short-term results.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Surgery<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This is usually only considered when other treatments have failed or\u00a0when the problem is not getting better. It is also\u00a0generally offered when\u00a0your condition is so bad that it is interfering\u00a0with your day-to-day activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joint replacements<\/strong> are designed to allow mobilisation without pain. They are an excellent for joint arthritis once the cartilage in the joint has worn down to bone.
