However it was not actually used\u00a0in the TV series.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-20333\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fawlty-Towers.jpg\" alt=\"Fawlty Towers\" width=\"336\" height=\"233\" data-id=\"20333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fawlty-Towers.jpg 570w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fawlty-Towers-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cleese\u2019s character &#8211; neurotic hotel owner Basil Fawlty &#8211; was based on the hotel\u2019s former owner, Donald Sinclair, whom Cleese called \u2018the most marvellously rude man I\u2019ve ever met.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Despite various plans to demolish the hotel over the past decade, it was ultimately\u00a0ideas put forward by Churchill Retirement Living that gained planning permission.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Burgess,\u00a0Planning Director for Planning Issues said: \u201cWe know how much the site means to people, and once construction starts we\u2019ll be sure to produce something that Basil would be proud of.\u201d\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-20334\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fawlty-Towers-gleneagles.jpg\" alt=\"Fawlty Towers gleneagles\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" data-id=\"20334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fawlty-Towers-gleneagles.jpg 400w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Fawlty-Towers-gleneagles-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Redevelopment of the Gleneagles Hotel site will be scheduled for completion in early 2017.
