Report by Ellie O&#8217;Donnell<\/h3>\n<p>New research from Anchor reveals that the 1965 classic <em>The Sound of Music<\/em> ranks top among the silver screen favourites of the over 55s.<\/p>\n<p>And old movies rated higher than newer releases with whopping 80 per cent of the top 10 family film choices pre-dating 1975.<\/p>\n<p>When choosing their favourite films to watch with family, interestingly men and women differed in their choices. Men selected\u00a0<em>The Railway Children\u00a0<\/em>whilst women\u2019s must-watch movie was the 2008 Abba musical <em>Mamma Mia.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The big screen plays a\u00a0significant part in the lives of the survey&#8217;s participants. Some two thirds of those who took part said they watched a film once a week, with over a quarter saying they watched with younger people.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-23459\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Staff-member-Julia-Laal-as-Maria-entertaining-residents-of-Moore-Place-and-children-from-The-Bloo-House-School-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"472\" height=\"314\" data-id=\"23459\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Anchor, the UK&#8217;s largest not-for-profit housing and care provider in the UK, is hosting <em>Sound of Music <\/em>themed events at its care homes and housing developments.<\/p>\n<p>Selected locations will be welcoming friends, family and members of the public to join in for a film screening of the <em>Sound of Music<\/em>, movie quiz and refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>Anchor\u2019s Chief Executive, Jane Ashcroft CBE, said: \u201cWatching a film as a family is a wonderful way to bring together several generations. The message at the heart of\u00a0<em>The Sound of Music<\/em>\u00a0is the strength of family bonds and I think that is something that UK families still very much relate to today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top five films for today\u2019s over 55s:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The Sound of Music (1965)<\/li>\n<li>The Railway Children (1970)<\/li>\n<li>Mamma Mia (2008)<\/li>\n<li>Singing in the Rain (1956)<\/li>\n<li>Oliver!
