{"id":23469,"date":"2017-06-23T13:54:56","date_gmt":"2017-06-23T12:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/?p=23469"},"modified":"2017-10-19T10:01:11","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T09:01:11","slug":"homesitting-can-offer-retirees-adventure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/homesitting-can-offer-retirees-adventure\/","title":{"rendered":"How homesitting can offer retirees adventure"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Homesitting has become an attractive option for many women over 65 discovers ELLIE O&#8217;DONNELL<\/h3>\n<p>Women over 65 are opting to become homesitters as 75 per cent of participants in a recent survey revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Alan Irvine, Chairman of\u00a0Homesitters Ltd which conducted the research, explains: \u201cOur research highlights that retired women are relishing being homesitters because it provides the opportunity for a little adventure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They enjoy meeting new people and the fact the role keeps them active, especially if they are looking after dogs, and they appreciate being able to stay in beautiful properties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey aimed to gauge the opinions of homesitters, their motivations to take on the role and the challenges they face on the job. The benefits to homeowners was also investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Homesitters said that the most rewarding part of the role was being able to explore other parts of the UK, whilst nearly three quarters said looking after animals was the best part of the job.<\/p>\n<p>Other beneficial aspects included, living in beautiful homes and having a break from the routines of life. Apart from this, many valued the financial benefits of the job, 75 per cent said they appreciated the extra income during their retirement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For clients, the top three benefits of having someone take care of their home and pet were:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cKnowing they will return to a happy pet and a tidy home\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cSomeone to look after their pets\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cKeeping the house secure\u201d\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-20551\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/homesitters.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"451\" height=\"338\" data-id=\"20551\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/homesitters.jpg 650w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/homesitters-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/homesitters-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are many positives of the homesitting role, however, it is not without some challenges, 48 per cent of employees said they found it difficult to get to grips with how everything works in the home, whilst 37 per reported problems having the responsibility of securing the home.<\/p>\n<p>Homesitters can mainly expect to be looking after cats or dogs, however, some reported taking care of pygmy goats, peacocks, chinchillas, donkeys, bearded dragons, poisonous tree frogs, snakes, and tarantulas. One homesitter had to look after a hawk that had to be fed live mice!<\/p>\n<p>With Homesitters Ltd, employees are given options on assignments that appeal to them.
