<\/a>But with the help and encouragement of her beloved extended family, the retired bank employee is now enjoying a fulfilling life once again thanks to her decision to downsize and move to Landmark Place, a McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living development in Denham, Buckinghamshire.<\/p>\n\u201cAfter the loss of my husband, I didn\u2019t want to stay in my house any longer,” she explains. “It was becoming too large for me to maintain and I could no longer look after the garden.<\/p>\n
“I wanted to move somewhere where I\u2019d be able to relax without any worries and feel safe. I had also had some health issues which affected my mobility.\u201d<\/p>\n
Joy had the support of her three daughters throughout the decision-making process.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy daughters were very keen for me to move so that I would have less to worry about, and they enquired about the development for me.<\/p>\n
“After seeing Landmark Place for myself and meeting the staff and some of the homeowners, I was sure that independent living within a secure environment would be ideal for what I wanted and needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since making the move, Joy\u2019s life is now on the up. She has made new friends, is enjoying a fulfilling social life and spending quality time with her large family.<\/p>\n

She says:\u201d My three daughters, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren are all happy to see me settled at Landmark Place. My daughters are especially delighted to know that I have all the support I require rather than continuing to live on my own in a house which was frankly too big for me. I see them all the time as they come to visit regularly, as well as take me on outings.”<\/p>\n
As an active member of her new community, Joy has been taking advantage of the many events organised at Landmark Place.<\/p>\n
She regularly attends quizzes, and cheese-and-wine gatherings, film nights and entertainment evenings, as well as enjoying day trips with her new circle of friends.<\/p>\n
\u201cI moved into the development with a walker frame, and went outside with a wheelchair. Since moving to Landmark Place, I\u2019ve become much more mobile and I\u2019m sure that\u2019s down to the time I\u2019ve had to relax and get better properly.<\/p>\n
“I’m very thankful to our house manager, Mike, who always made sure to check in to see how I was getting on during my recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now thankfully over her health problems, she is energetically making the most that retirement living offers in a safe, supportive environment and one filled with companionship.<\/p>\n
When reviewing the decision that has changed her life, her thoughts turn to what her late husband would have said.\u00a0\u201cI know he would have been thrilled,\u201d she smiles.<\/p>\n
