Residents at a retirement village, near Alcester in Warwickshire, have enjoyed an evening of music and opera in the village\u2019s very own on-site amphitheatre.<\/p>\n
Great Alne Park, operated by award-winning, later-living provider Inspired Villages, is thought to be the only retirement village to have such a space in the UK.<\/p>\n
To celebrate the completion of the amphitheatre and to support the charitable work carried out by the\u00a0Opera Awards Foundation, homeowners enjoyed a special socially-distanced concert on the grassy arena in the grounds of their retirement village.<\/p>\n
The professional performers were pianist Louisa Lam, tenor Alex Haigh and mezzo-soprano Rosie Clifford who performed a selection from the some of the world’s best-known\u00a0operas, as well as some more contemporary pieces.<\/p>\n
The programme included:<\/strong>\u00a0Ombra mai fu (Handel,\u00a0Xerxes),\u00a0<\/em>Minute waltz (Chopin),\u00a0<\/em>Una furtiva lagrima (Donizetti,\u00a0L\u2019elisir d\u2019amore),\u00a0<\/em>I got rhythm (Gershwin),\u00a0<\/em>Silent Noon (Vaughan Williams)<\/p>\n The grass amphitheatre has capacity for over 400 people and will stage a series of professional events from May to September 2021, including literary events in association with the Stratford Literary Festival, professional theatre performances and a variety of musical concerts for residents, the local community and visitors.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ben Ling, Great Alne Park Village Manager, was delighted at the success of the amphitheatre’s first concert: \u201cThe opera performances were an incredible way to showcase the space in all its glory and we are very much looking forward to hosting a summer of events next year for residents and the local community.<\/p>\n \u201cSpending time with friends and family, as well as enjoying cultural experiences such as music, film and theatre all help to improve wellbeing in later life so we are very proud to have something so unique and versatile here at the village.\u201d<\/p>\n Resident Stephen Walsh added: \u201cBeing part of a community that looks after your social, mental and physical wellbeing is a proven way of staying healthy and active for longer.<\/p>\n “Here at Great Alne Park there is an active community and the amphitheatre is the latest addition to its facilities. We very much enjoyed the inaugural performance of some well-known operatic pieces from by Alex Haigh and Rosie Clifford.<\/p>\n The outdoor element adds an extra dimension to the experience \u2013 music, fresh air and a setting sun, followed by a drink or two with food. What a way to end the day!
