_builder_version=&#8221;4.4.8&#8243;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.8&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.8&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.4&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>A puzzle as to the identity of some unusual plants growing in a grassy area within Woodchester Valley village has been solved \u2013 they are wild orchids<\/h3>\n<p>As active local nature lovers, gardeners and environmentalists, concern was raised among the retired homeowners that endangered plant species might be at risk.<\/p>\n<p>It was with great excitement that orchids were confirmed as growing in an area by the pond.<\/p>\n<p>Village resident Sue Gage, a member of the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, identified and photographed the Bee Orchid.<\/p>\n<p>She has also found Campion growing in the wilder areas around the retirement village and a patch of the much rarer Ragged Robin.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_49537\" style=\"width: 369px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/?attachment_id=49537\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49537\" class=\"wp-image-49537 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Bee-orchid-Copyright-Sue-Gage.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Bee-orchid-Copyright-Sue-Gage.jpg 359w, https:\/\/newclone.retiremove.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Bee-orchid-Copyright-Sue-Gage-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-49537\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bee Orchid &#8211; \u00a9Sue Gage 2021<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Luckily, the village has ecological experts on hand, who identified specific species and confirmed villagers\u2019 suspicions.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Davies, a Woodchester Valley Village director and son of one of the residents, is a re-wilding expert.<\/p>\n<p>He has identified 41 orchids growing in the grounds.<\/p>\n<p>The Common Spotted Orchids and Pyramidal Orchids are in flower, as well as the much rarer Bee Orchid.<\/p>\n<p>The gardening team from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearthstroud.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Down To Earth, Stroud<\/a>, which\u00a0provides environmental gardening services and runs several community projects across Gloucestershire, maintains the site and works in partnership with the Village to encourage its natural beauty and diversity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great example of working with nature,&#8221;
