Woodchester Valley retirement village ran a tallest sunflower competition this summer, with entries grown from seed\u00a0<\/h3>\n

In this, the second sunflower competition, not\u00a0all entrants managed to produce a sunflower, as some were eaten by bugs, and one \u2013 allegedly \u2013 was eaten by a deer!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Quite a few radiant blooms survived though, and you can see the splendid winner standing high and mighty at six foot nine inches next to its diligent grower, Barbara Rodgers who lives in one of the village cottages.<\/p>\n

“I was absolutely delighted with the outcome of my sunflower, and what a great way for the community to come together and enjoy gardening,” she declared.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the lofty feat a lavish tea was held in the Village Octagon, where a prize-giving ceremony was held culminating in the presentation of a bottle of Woodchester Valley Wine from the local vineyard to Barbara.<\/p>\n

The gardening group is popular among green-fingered homeowners, with the physical and mental benefits proving their value in these challenging times.<\/p>\n

With life getting back to normal, members are now looking forward to inviting local gardening clubs to visit the village, and hearing suggestions for next year\u2019s competition theme.<\/p>\n
